Marina Niko

In my artistic practice, I explore the value-emotional changes in society in the context of digital and technological transformation.

I work primarily in figurative painting. I often draw on personal experience of emotional states common to our time, so I also use self-portraits to create artistic images. My method is based on the collapse of the boundary between physical and virtual reality. I employ distortions, glitches, and acidic tones characteristic of the digital world in my paintings.

I also frequently address the theme of space in my work. I grew up in an industrial city, in a district that developed around a plant developing for the space industry. My entire childhood was spent idealizing the possibilities that were about to open up to humanity. And this sense of connection to space is reflected in my art. The boundless emptiness, emphasizing the fragility of human life, and the visual aesthetics of this space allow me to take a new look at the problems of loneliness and human vulnerability in a rapidly changing technological world.
